Since the poor show put up in their first match of the tournament, the Delhi Daredevils have since looked a changed side –with the coach in Rahul Dravid doing miracles for the squad, considering that it doesn’t necessarily look the most star-studded line-up on paper but in spite of which, the team collectively makes look like a formidable unit.

Daredevils won by 10 runs
Mumbai Indians whereas have looked a 50-50 side, in IPL 2016 so far; Mumbai Indians star players haven’t really stood up to the show and the inconsistency at the top order comes as a big reason to worry for the team and the management.
Mumbai Indians won the toss and opted to bowl first.
23rd of April saw Mumbai Indians and Delhi Daredevils competing against each other at the Feroz Shah Kotla. The Mumbai Indians won the toss and opted to bowl first. Mumbai Indians went into the match unchanged, however Delhi Daredevils made one change to their side – Carlos Braithwaite replaced with Imran Tahir.
Not a great start for Delhi Daredevils
Delhi Daredevils suffered an early blow after De Kock, coming to this match after scoring a century against Royal Challengers Bangalore – the pressure on him was intense and this was capitalized on by the Mumbai Indians. They managed to scalp him cheaply – getting him LBW for just 9. His opening partner in Shreyas Iyer had another mellow time at the crease – managing to score just 19, it’s fair to say that he hasn’t performed as per his real potential so far in the tournament. Nair too failed after giving away a catch to the fine leg – Delhi Daredevils were in trouble at 54/3.
Duminy and Samson revved up the play; DD closed with score of 164/4
Duminy joined Samson at the pitch and these two gave the innings some momentum. Samson was initially playing very safe, being 26 off 27 balls – but he soon started to break free, ending up with 60 off 48 balls. Duminy however the key aggressor in this partnership, smashing 49 in 31 balls, with 3 fours and 2 sixes. Delhi Daredevils got to 164/4.
MI started with 65 off 48 balls, making 50 in 6 overs
In their reply, Mumbai Indians required their key player in Rohit Sharma to take bulk of the strike and perhaps this resulted in the Mumbai Indians captain promoting himself from 1st down to opening slot; a move that did click as he made 65 from 48 balls. Mumbai’s innings got to a good start, getting to 50 in 6 overs, losing just the 1 wicket of Parthiv Patel.
Pandya aggresively made 36 in 17 balls
KH Pandya being promoted to 2nd down in the batting order made his intentions clear from ball one, his aggressive play helped Mumbai Indians make some quick runs – with Pandya making 36 in 17 balls (4 fours and 2 sixes). However, the Delhi Daredevils captain – Zaheer Khan got him out and that was pretty much Delhi Daredevils gateway to victory.
Zaheer’s 19th over – grabbing Pollard’s wicket – made Delhi Daredevils the favorites
Upon the fall of Pandya, the Delhi Daredevils managed to put a break on the run rate and it seemed that Mumbai Indians were leaving too much for the ending overs. Requiring 42 off 18 balls, Morris’s 18th over went for 10 but it was Zaheer’s 19th over – grabbing Pollard’s wicket that made Delhi Daredevils the favorites. Mumbai Indians required 21 in the last over and their hopes reached peak when Rohit Sharma smashed the 2nd ball of the over for a six; giving their fans a lot to cheer about – but not for long. On the next delivery, he ran himself out and also injured himself; so much so that he had to be carried out of the field by the physio. The very next ball saw Harbhajan Singh LBW and that pretty much was the end to Mumbai Indian’s hope of their 3rd win in the tournament.
DDvMI Final Score Card: DD won by 10 runs
Mumbai Indians lost the match by 10 runs and this was their 4th loss in their 6th game of IPL 2016. On other hand we have the peculiar case of Delhi Daredevils, a side that isn’t strong on paper but somehow gels perfectly on the field which makes it quite similar to the now dissolved Rajasthan Royals – perhaps Dravid’s coaching makes Delhi Daredevils so much special because he’s one coach who spends great amount of time with the youngsters and it’ll be interesting to see how they go about their play in the coming games, winning 3 games in a row, first time since 2012 – IPL is starting to look positive for this franchise.
